DNS Africa to Host Webinar on ICANN’s New Five-Year Strategic Plan: “ICANN in Five Years, Your Role”.

DNS Africa, a leading advocate for Internet development and governance in Africa, today announced it will host a crucial webinar titled “ICANN in Five Years: Your Role in Shaping the Internet’s Future.” The event comes as the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN) officially launched its new Five-Year Strategic Plan for Fiscal Years (FY) 2026–30 on July 1, 2025.

The ICANN Strategic Plan FY26–30 will serve as the guiding framework for ICANN’s priorities and activities over the next half-decade, aiming to strengthen the single, globally interoperable Internet for all. Developed through a highly inclusive process involving the global ICANN community, organization, and other stakeholders, the plan defines ICANN’s long-term objectives to achieve its ambitious 2030 Vision.

“As the trusted steward of the Internet’s unique identifier systems, ICANN is dedicated to strengthening the single, globally interoperable Internet for all,” stated ICANN Board Chair Tripti Sinha. “This new five-year Strategic Plan serves as a road map for ICANN’s continued impact. The plan belongs to all of us, and we each play a role in bringing it to life.”

The plan outlines four Strategic Objectives that chart the path toward ICANN’s 2030 vision, reflecting commitments to multistakeholder Internet governance, organizational excellence, innovation, and collaboration. It is complemented by a Five-Year Operating Plan detailing execution activities.

“The launch of ICANN’s new Strategic Plan is a pivotal moment for the global Internet community, and especially for Africa,” said Dr. Adebunmi Akinbo, Founder of DNS Africa Media and Communications. “This webinar is a vital opportunity for governments, civil society, the technical community, academia, and businesses across our region to understand these new objectives and, more importantly, to identify and embrace their crucial role in bringing this plan to fruition. We believe that active African participation is essential for a truly inclusive and resilient global Internet.”

The webinar will feature insights from key ICANN representatives and prominent African Internet governance leaders, providing a comprehensive overview of the Strategic Plan and practical guidance on how regional stakeholders can engage effectively in ICANN’s policy development processes and initiatives. About ICANN:

ICANN’s mission is to help ensure a stable, secure, and unified global Internet. To reach another person on the Internet, you need to type an address – a name or a number – into your computer or other device. That address must be unique so computers know where to find each other. ICANN helps coordinate these unique identifiers across the world. ICANN was formed in 1998 as a not-for-profit public-benefit corporation and a community with participants from all over the world.
