What is the ICANN NextGen Program?
The Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN) is a global organization that coordinates the Internet’s unique identifiers. Its work ensures a stable, secure, and unified global Internet.
The NextGen Program is specifically designed to empower the next generation of Internet leaders. Through this program, ICANN provides coaching and travel assistance to students from the regions where its three annual public meetings are taking place. This is your chance to gain invaluable insights and contribute to crucial discussions that impact the entire online world!
Who Can Apply for NextGen?
If you meet the following criteria, the NextGen Program could be your stepping stone to a impactful career in Internet Governance:
- Age: You must be between 18 and 30 years old at the time of the ICANN meeting.
- Location: You need to be currently living and studying in the region where the upcoming ICANN meeting is being held. (For example, the latest meeting took place in Rwanda in March 2024, so students/young people from that region were eligible.)
- Interest: You should have a genuine interest in Internet Governance, the future of the Internet, and other topics covered at ICANN meetings.
What Will You Gain?
Selected NextGen participants receive:
- Coaching and Mentorship: Guidance from experienced professionals in the ICANN community.
- Travel Assistance: Support for your travel and accommodation to attend an ICANN Public Meeting in person.
- Networking: The opportunity to connect with a diverse global community of internet policy experts, technical professionals, and fellow young leaders.
