Ghana Domain Name Registry works in conformity with global best practice and will work with the Local Internet Business community to sell .gh domain names to end-users. Registrations can only be done through GDNR accredited Registrars. These Registrars helps to facilitate the registration, transfer, renewal, and modification of registration data for customers that apply for .gh domain names. The Registrars are allowed to appoint re-sellers for their operations.
The .gh Registry is managed by Network Computer Systems (NCS)Ltd – (now GDC) since 1996 and it’s going through a relegation process to GDNR (Ghana Domain Name Registry). GDNR is a not-for-profit company that manages and regulates the .gh namespace. GDNR will adopt the 3-R model (Registry/Registrar/Registrant model) in the operation and management of the .gh ccTLD. The implication of this is that GDNR does not handle the registration of domain names directly. Registrations can only be done through GDNR accredited Registrars. These Registrars are certified by GDNR to facilitate the registration, transfer, renewal, and modification of registration data for customers that apply for .gh domain names. The Registrars are allowed to appoint re-sellers for their operations.
