Uganda DNS Forum Launches Landmark DNS Academy; Dr. Adebunmi Akinbo Delivers Visionary Keynote on Digital Sovereignty
KAMPALA, UGANDA | January 26, 2026 — On the International Day of Education, the Uganda DNS Forum officially launched the DNS Academy, a pioneering initiative set to transform the digital landscape of the East Corridor of Africa. The virtual launch event culminated in a powerful keynote address by renowned internet governance expert Dr. Adebunmi Akinbo, who laid out a roadmap for a secure and inclusive African internet.
Speaking to a diverse audience of policymakers, technical engineers, and youth leaders, Dr. Akinbo’s address, titled “Education as the Foundation of a Secure and Inclusive Internet,” challenged the traditional view of cybersecurity. He introduced the concept of the “Human Firewall,” arguing that technical protocols like DNSSEC are only as strong as the people who manage them.
“Security is not just a technical product; it is a cultural practice,” Dr. Akinbo stated during his address. “By localizing DNS expertise through this Academy, Uganda is not just training technicians—it is asserting its Digital Sovereignty and ensuring the internet remains a tool for everyone, not just the elite few.”
A New Era for the East Corridor
The DNS Academy—frequently referred to as the “School for Uganda”—arrives at a critical juncture as East Africa continues its rapid digital expansion. By providing specialized training in the Domain Name System (DNS), the Academy aims to bridge the critical skills gap in network security, policy governance, and internet infrastructure.
The launch signifies a major leap forward for the East Corridor of Africa, positioning Uganda as a regional hub for technical excellence. The initiative is expected to reduce reliance on external technical support, lower latency through better local DNS management, and foster a more resilient local internet economy.
Celebrating Visionary Leadership
The success of the launch and the establishment of the DNS Fellowship is a testament to the tireless dedication of Mutegeki Cliff Agaba, Convener of the Uganda DNS Forum.
The event took a moment to specifically celebrate Mr. Agaba’s passion and vision. Under his leadership, what began as a concept to improve local internet governance has evolved into a robust fellowship program. His commitment to fostering a multi-stakeholder environment has been the primary catalyst in bringing together academia, government, and the private sector to make the DNS Academy a reality.

The DNS Academy is a flagship, the second in Africa, powered by the Uganda DNS Forum. It provides high-level training and fellowship opportunities for professionals and youth interested in the technical and policy aspects of the internet’s root infrastructure. The Uganda DNS Forum is a multi-stakeholder platform dedicated to the growth, security, and stability of the Domain Name System ecosystem in Uganda and the wider East African regions.
