NAIROBI, Kenya — The Africa Internet Summit 2026 (AIS’26) entered its third day today, shifting its focus toward pivotal organizational governance, financial transparency, and regional internet policy. Held at the Emara Ole Sereni Hotel in Nairobi, today’s proceedings are considered the most consequential of the five-day summit for members of the African Network Information Centre (AFRINIC).
A major hybrid broadcasting effort is underway to accommodate global stakeholders. High-stakes sessions began early, with the official live stream going live at 7:00 AM WAT.
High-Stakes Operational and Legal Reviews
The morning sessions offered an in-depth, transparent review of the registry’s internal operations. Key items on the presentation floor included:
- Financial Health & Audited Accounts: Presenting AFRINIC’s balance sheets, annual reports, and budgetary allocations for the upcoming fiscal cycle.
- Legal Matter Updates: Addressing ongoing legal frameworks and structural updates affecting the regional internet registry—a session drawing heavy attention from regional telecom operators and policy advocates.
To preserve strict security protocols, the Secretariat reminded all remote Resource Members that while public observers can track the event via the general Africa Internet Summit YouTube Channel, authorized delegates must log in using their unique Zoom credentials to access the interactive chambers.
AGMM Resolution Voting Commences
The focal point of Day 3 is the Annual General Members’ Meeting (AGMM), which officially commenced at 12:00 PM WAT.
The AGMM serves as the supreme democratic mechanism for AFRINIC, where registered Designated Representatives and Resource Members cast their votes on key operational resolutions previously circulated via email. Non-voting members and the broader internet community have been granted access to watch the strategic updates and community deliberations live via the dedicated AFRINIC YouTube Channel.
“The AGMM is a vital space for input. It allows our community to actively steer the regulatory and operational frameworks protecting Africa’s IP address allocations and core infrastructure,” noted meeting coordinators.
With voting results and committee reports scheduled to wrap up later today, the outcomes of this afternoon’s AGMM are expected to dictate AFRINIC’s operational trajectory heading deep into 2026 and 2027.
